Maya Yoshida says Southampton must continue to display the sort of attitude they did against Watford as they move forward this season.

Saints responded to their EFL Cup final heartbreak in impressive fashion when they travelled to Vicarage Road last weekend, winning a thriller, 4-3.

we fought for our lives and we fought to win.

While he was disappointed with the number of goals they conceded, Yoshida was proud of the spirit and character that the players produced.

"It was a really important game for us," he said. "We showed a good reaction. It wasn't the best performance from us, but we fought for our lives and we fought to win.

"I was very happy to get the three points, but still we have very important games coming, especially in April we have many games.

"So we just have to be focused on the game against Spurs, then we go into the international break and come back with a good mentality and be ready physically and mentally.

"We are enjoying it, but we still need to improve a lot. We have to stop conceding goals now."
