Radhi Jaïdi is well aware of the challenge his Southampton Under-23s side will face at St Mary’s this evening.

Saints host Chelsea in Premier League 2 action, as they look to bounce back from consecutive 2-0 defeats to Everton and Newcastle.

“In a positive way the boys have reacted by themselves,” started Jaïdi.

“They have taken ownership and spoken amongst themselves about all the points that Martin [Hunter] and I spoke about together.

“They are conscious that they will be coming up against a team full of individual talent, but we are aware and ready for that opportunity.”

Southampton’s youngsters currently sit 8th in the league – 7 points behind Chelsea in 5th and two ahead of Leicester at the foot of the table.

And Jaïdi knows that victory this evening would bring his side closer to the visitors and away from the pack at the bottom of the table.

“If you see the table it is really tight,” he continued.

“Between 6th and 12th there is only a gap of around five points between seven teams, so it is pretty challenging.

“That just shows the level of the league and how close it is between the teams in terms of quality.”
