Jason McCarthy helped Walsall to their fifth straight home victory, in a 2-0 success over Oldham at Bescot Stadium.

The visitors saw Lee Croft dismissed early on for a lunge on McCarthy, as Erhun Oztumer‘s penalty and Amadou Bakayoko’s stoppage time strike clinched maximum points.

Late on, Oldham had Brian Wilson sent off to finish the game with nine men.

Elsewhere, Sam Gallagher played the duration as Blackburn recorded a vital 1-0 win over Wigan Athletic at Ewood Park.

Dutch forward Marvin Emnes’ solitary effort earned Rovers a third straight home win to go two points clear of the relegation zone.

The result means they have now amassed seven points from a potential nine since the arrival of new boss Tony Mowbray.

In Spain, Paulo Gazzaniga kept a clean sheet as loan club Rayo Vallecano drew 0-0 at home to Reus Deportiu in Segunda Division.
