Cédric believes he’s benefitting from having a bigger influence in the dressing room at Southampton.
The right-back has been in fine form for Saints in recent months, helping Claude Puel’s men keep clean sheets in both legs against Liverpool on their way to the EFL Cup final.
The Portuguese international is now eyeing a second major honour in less than a year, and he’s been delighted with the progress he’s made at St Mary’s.
“It’s very special for me [to be going to the final], because I feel part of it,” he explained to southamptonfc.com.
“I feel I have a bigger role in the club every day and this makes me feel proud.
“It’s normal from the beginning that you need to show yourself when you come here, but now I have played many games for Southampton.”
But it’s also the club’s faith in him – Cédric was rewarded with a new contract after just one season at the club – that has helped him continue his progress.
“The club also recognises my value,” he continued. “They showed they trust me with the new deal and also now I feel every game more important for the club.
“This makes me feel even more responsibility and the feeling that I want to give more and more for the club, fighting for our fans. I think every player should think.
“If everyone thinks the same way, we will be at a very high level and achieve big things for Southampton.”
