#MarchToWembley: Arsenal 0-2 Saints

By SFC Media Wed 22 Feb EFL Cup

Southampton secured progress to the semi-finals of the League Cup for the first time in 30 years, thanks to a fantastic 2-0 win against Arsenal in north London.

Jordy Clasie’s first goal for the club and Ryan Bertrand’s first of the season sealed a memorable win for Saints, as they knocked Arsenal out of the competition for the second time in three seasons.

Both goals arrived in the first half at Emirates Stadium, as Saints showed a decisive clinical edge against the Gunners.

IT FEELS AMAZING AND I HAD TO WAIT A LONG TIME FOR IT. I'M HAPPY FOR THE TEAM THAT I SCORED TODAY AND IT WAS AN IMPORTANT GOAL AS WELL.

JORDY CLASIE
SOUTHAMPTON MIDFIELDER

I'VE BEEN IN THAT SITUATION A FEW TIMES IN THE PAST AND I JUST MADE SURE THE FIRST TOUCH WAS CORRECT AND, AS SOON AS THAT WAS HIT, IT WAS GOING TO BE A GOAL.

RYAN BERTRAND
SOUTHAMPTON DEFENDER

IT WAS A STRONG GAME, WITH GOOD SOLIDARITY. WE MOVED THE TEAM AT THE START WITH DIFFERENT PLAYERS AND THE ANSWER FROM THEM WAS FANTASTIC.

CLAUDE PUEL
SOUTHAMPTON MANAGER
