Danny Butterfield has challenged Southampton Under-18s to show a consistency to their performances, starting with the visit of Brighton & Hove Albion on Wednesday.
The Seagulls are set to visit Staplewood Campus in the Under-18 Premier League, and assistant manager Butterfield is keen to see a repeat of the display that earned Saints a 2-0 victory over Swansea City in their previous outing.
“We want to see a consistency in individual performances,” he started.
“If we can perform at the levels we did against Swansea, both collectively and individually, then that’s all we can ask of them.
“Hopefully the positives of that result will also help to build confidence, which is something we can now take into Wednesday.”
With the rearrangement of this fixture, Saints youngsters face a sharp turnaround following Saturday's victory over Swansea.
Though Butterfield believes the experience will be beneficial for his players.
“The reality is that games come thick and fast,” he continued.
“Especially at first team level, so it will be good for their development again to experience that so early on.
“I am sure the medical team will look after the lads properly and we will get them in and prepare right from Monday for the game.”
