Radhi Jaïdi has warned his side to expect a robust attacking line when they face Bristol City in the Premier League Cup.
Southampton Under-23s travel to Twerton Park on Thursday afternoon, and Jaïdi has called for his players to stand up to the Robins' physical style.
“It’s a team who are pretty direct and physical upfront,” he started.
“They try to win the second ball, play wide and then cross from wide areas –it’s a different style of play to what we are used to facing.
“So I am expecting a good challenge for our defenders and midfielders, but we are looking to come back and react after the Swansea game.”
Saints suffered a 1-0 defeat to Swansea City in the same competition on Monday night, after Alfie Jones deflected into his own net on 20 minutes at Staplewood.
And Jaïdi is keen to see his side put that result behind them.
“It’s a very short time to discuss much,” he continued.
“We went through the Swansea game, which was about us and not the balls we gave away. We didn’t explore our opportunities.
“The boys need to get what is required straight away and react on Thursday. There is not enough time to discuss everything, we just need to focus on Bristol.”
