Radhi Jaïdi believes Southampton Under-23s’ inability to break down Swansea City cost them victory in the Premier League Cup.
Saints were unable to find a way through the visitors after they took an early lead through an Alfie Jones deflected own goal in the first half.
“It’s difficult to take,” explained Jaïdi.
“Especially when you know you had the opportunities and the space to create something.
“So it was about us, to be fair. I was expecting Swansea to worry us more, but in the mid and final thirds we didn’t explore the spaces.
“We created probably one or two chances in the first and second half, but didn’t put them away. It was all about us.”
Saints will have an immediate opportunity to put the defeat right on Thursday night, when they travel to face Bristol City in the same competition.
And Jaïdi is hoping to see an quick response from his players.
“It’s a quick turnaround,” he continued.
“So we are expecting a reaction from our boys. It will be a different type of team that we will be playing against in Bristol City.
“It’s a good opportunity now for us to think about it quickly and do it better on Thursday. There’s not much we need to do, but there are things to look at.”
