Oriol Romeu says he wants to continue to repay the fans for their support after scooping his third Under Armour Player of the Month award for his January performances.
Romeu edged out Cédric, Shane Long and Maya Yoshida to in the fans’ poll in a month where Saints reached the EFL Cup final.
“I’m really happy because the fans recognise the work of the pitch and it’s something that’s very nice to have,” said Romeu upon receiving his trophy.
“In that month we get into the final and the semi-final against Liverpool was amazing for all of us.
“It was a great experience. The second leg at Anfield was something we always dreamed of. It couldn’t have been any better and now we want to finish that work off.”
After a month that also saw him put pen to paper on a new four-and-a-half year deal, Romeu paid tribute to the support he has received.
“It’s very nice to have that support from them and I’m feeling happy here. Having that support from them is amazing and every time I play I really enjoy it,” Romeu said.
“I want to keep having that feeling but I need to keep working so I don’t lose it.
“It’s amazing the way they’ve treated me since I came here and I want to give that love back.”
