Thomas O’Connor is expecting a physical battle when Southampton Under-23s take on Leicester City on Monday night.

Saints are back in Premier League 2 action as they travel north to face the Foxes, who they drew 2-2 with back at the start of the season.

“We are all really looking forward to the game,” started O’Connor.

“We are expecting it to be obviously very tough – they are a strong side and it will be a physical challenge.

“We played them earlier on in the season and it was a very close game, so we are expecting the same on Monday.”

17-year-old O’Connor made his 20th start of the season for the Under-23s against Tottenham Hotspur last week.

And the Republic of Ireland youngster is relishing being involved in Martin Hunter and Radhi Jaïdi’s set-up.

“It’s great to be playing with the Under-23s,” he continued.

“It’s a step up from Under-18s as it is more physical and the tempo is much quicker – it’s good for me to improve my game.

“Hopefully I can keep playing and training with them so that I can impress the coaches and show them what I can do.”
