James Ward-Prowse believes Southampton will only get back to winning ways by staying focused as they begin preparations for a trip to Sunderland next weekend.
Saints slipped to their sixth defeat in their last seven Premier League games following their setback against West Ham on Saturday, and Ward-Prowse wants the team to refocus quickly.
The defeat means Saints have lost more side than any other in the league after taking a lead, and Ward-Prowse tried to put his finger on why that might be the case.
“I think it’s a bit of concentration,” he said.
“We’ve conceded a lot of goals after just scoring ourselves, but we’ve also had the nice distraction of a cup run, but we have to remain focused and look forward to a tough game at Sunderland.
“We knew we had to get a few goals, but we had to be a bit more clinical in front of goal and maybe take that chance and then the luck will fall our way.”
A trip to the Stadium of Light awaits Saints next weekend, and Ward-Prowse gave a clear message of what the team needs to do in the north east.
“We need to stick together and be hard to break down,” he said.
“It’s going to be a bit different now with a week’s preparation for the game, but we’ve got to make sure that we go there and make sure that we fight for the three points.”
