Southampton boss Claude Puel has revealed that Virgil van Dijk will remain out for two to three months with an ankle injury.
The Dutch international limped off in the 3-0 win over Leicester City at St Mary’s and has missed three games since.
Puel said: “van Dijk will stay not available for many weeks, two or three months. I don’t know how many times he will stay out but it’s a problem and it’s difficult.
“We are unlucky with Virgil because he was important for the group in defence with his quality and his leadership also.
“We will see with Ward-Prowse and Jay Rodriguez if they can come back with the team. Sofiane Boufal is back now and we saw him against Swansea how he can be very important.”
When asked about whether new signings Mouez Hassen and Manolo Gabbiadini will be involved, Puel added: “Manolo Gabbiadini can participate for this game but for Mouez Hassen he has to work a little.
“For Gabbiadini we will see if he can start or be introduced from the bench in the second-half perhaps.”
