New signing Mouez Hassen says working with Southampton boss Claude Puel was a huge draw in joining the club from OGC Nice on a loan until the end of the season.

Hassen, who has represented France at youth level, worked with Puel at the French club.

And the 21-year-old is naturally looking for to working with someone who has given him so much confidence.

“He’s got a great relationship with his players, he always speaks to them and he communicates well with everyone. He is always very straight with people and sticks to his values and principles,” said Hassen.

“I respect that and so, to work together again here makes me very happy and shows that he values me as much as I do him.

“I think the project that this club represents matches up perfectly with him and to have a manager like him can only be positive for the club. It’s a good thing that he’s here and above all it’s a real pleasure.

“He gave me my first chance in Ligue 1. He handed me my debut and gave me that confidence.”

Hassen has already been impressed by the infrastructure of the club, and he believes it that provides that platform for it to grow and continue on upward trajectory.

“I had the chance to have a walk around the club and see all the facilities. It really is extraordinary,” he added.

It’s something that is well-known in France and it’s a real pleasure to experience all these things that there weren’t in France.

I think to be a great club, it all starts from having fantastic facilities and Southampton has it all to become a great club. It’s already a great club but it can become even bigger.”
