Cédric was frustrated with the manner of Southampton’s 2-1 setback at Swansea City as Saints were beaten by Gylfi Sigurdsson’s goal in Wales.

Claude Puel’s men fell behind in the first half to Alfie Mawson’s header, before levelling up when Shane Long converted Ryan Bertrand’s cross before the hour mark.

Sigurdsson’s strike following a break down field was tough to take for the visitors though, who couldn’t force a second goal for themselves after that effort.

“It’s a very disappointing night,” Cédric explained.

“I think we started the game well and then we lost control. After we tried to react again and they scored. We changed again and couldn’t control the counter-attacks or the openings and when they scored the second goal and it was tough.

“It was a long way back to get the best result and I think we should learn from our mistakes and get better.”

Saints had battled hard to get back into the game and appeared the more likely team to score again before Swansea got the break, and Cédric wants the squad to use this game as a valuable reference point in the future.

“It was a very tough moment because I think our team was getting better when it was 1-1 and to suffer a goal like this was a little bit unlucky as well,” he commented.

“The way we suffered the goal killed the team a little bit. We tried to react to try to get 2-2 but it was not possible.

“But we should have controlled the match better. It was not our best performance tonight and I think we should win this game. I’m a bit disappointed as well because we worked hard and in the end we didn’t get the result we wanted.”
