Claude Puel has confirmed that the side will be without team captain Virgil van Dijk for the game against Swansea City in the Premier League.
van Dijk sustained an ankle injury in the 3-0 victory over Leicester City at St Mary’s, and missed subsequent fixtures against Liverpool and Arsenal.
Puel said: “We know Virgil van Dijk will stay weeks out of the team and it’s important to find a good balance without him for three weeks.
“We will see how many times he will not be available but for the team but for the moment, it’s important like against Liverpool to see a balance in defence.
“Perhaps there is a possibility at the end of the transfer window to see about this position.”
Puel was also without a number of first-team players for the visit of the Gunners, including James Ward-Prowse, Jay Rodriguez and Sofiane Boufal.
And given the length of his injury list in recent weeks, the boss refused to be drawn on individual cases as to whether they will be available again for the visit to Swansea.
He added: “I don’t like to comment on individual players because otherwise the opponent will be able to tell my team.”
