Florin Gardos could not his disappointment after Southampton were knocked out of the Emirates FA Cup at the fourth round stage by Arsenal.
A hat-trick from Theo Walcott and a Danny Welbeck brace ended the hosts hopes of another memorable cup run.
Gardos, who was making his first appearance since February 2015 after injury, says the side must learn from their exit.
He said: “We’re all disappointed because of the result but we can learn something from this game and we have to move on because we have a difficult period coming up.
“We conceded pretty easily and of course you’re disappointed. We also had a lot of young players today and I think they had more experience, which proved the difference.”
One bright spot on otherwise forgettable afternoon, was that six academy graduates gained further first-team experience, something which Gardos feel could prove invaluable for the future.
“I think it proves that the Academy keeps giving good youth players and they did well even though the result wasn’t what we wanted,” Gardos continued.
“They have to learn that you have got to keep going because things like that can happen.”
