Oriol Romeu is hoping to toast his new Southampton contract tonight by reaching a Wembley cup final.
Romeu penned a new deal until 2021 at St Mary’s on Tuesday, and would like nothing more than to celebrate it by overcoming Liverpool in the second leg of the EFL Cup semi-final.
Romeu said: "I like to look in the short-term and I would like to achieve a final. That would be an amazing celebration for the new contract that I just signed.
“It would be amazing to play a final for this club, for the fans and for the whole team. We are really looking forward for it.
“That is the first target I have in my mind right now, but there are more to come and hopefully we can finish this season in a good level, high in the table and playing good football.”
The midfielder is also hoping that his form at Southampton could one day lead to a call-up from Spain.
"Yes, I would love to get that,” he said. “I know it is hard, I know it is difficult, but I am working for it and I am trying to get that call.
“It's something that if it comes I will be very pleased and very happy, but if it doesn't I will keep doing the same.”
