Alfie Jones wants Southampton Under-23s to make amends for Monday’s 3-1 league defeat at home to Arsenal.
And the Saints captain believes Friday night’s Premier League Cup tie away at Bristol City provides the perfect opportunity to do just that.
“It was tough result to take on Monday,” said Jones.
“I thought we were the better team in the first half, but we dropped off the in the second half and that’s what led to conceding the goals.
“We had good spells in the first half, so we want to take those positives into Friday and try to do it for 90 minutes We want to put things right as soon as possible.”
Saints currently lead the way in their Premier League Cup group, and victory in Bristol would edge them ever closer to qualifying for the knockout stages.
And Jones admits his side are keen to get revenge for their 2-1 defeat to the Robins in the group’s reverse fixture.
“We want to get back at them and get a win,” he continued.
“I think we need that as well to get our spirits up again. We are going to go into it with confidence and try to get the three points.
“It would mean a lot to qualify in this competition and go far. I believe we are good enough to do that – it would be good to push through and try to win this cup.”
