Harley Willard has called on Southampton Under-23s to be more clinical when they face Arsenal at Staplewood Campus on Monday night.
Saints suffered a 4-2 defeat away to Reading in their previous Premier League 2 fixture, and Willard feels there was plenty his side could learn from that match.
“We are just going to try and improve from the Reading game,” started Willard.
“We need to start both halves well against Arsenal and try to be more clinical – in both the attacking and defensive areas.
“We were disappointed to lose against Reading as we felt we were the better team. But there’s plenty to learn from and look at ahead of Monday.”
It will be a test against familiar foe for Willard, who spent a large proportion of his formative years with the Gunners.
Not that any of that alters his determination to pick up three points for Saints.
“I enjoyed my time there,” he continued.
“It was a good eight or so years, but at the end of the day I play for Southampton now and we want to beat them.
“We need to get three points on the board. We want to get some wins behind us and get as high up the table as we possibly can.”
