Southampton must put their upcoming EFL Cup semi-final second leg against Liverpool to the back of their minds, insists Cédric.

The right-back, who helped Saints to a 1-0 victory in the first leg at St Mary’s on Wednesday night, says focus must now solely be on the trip to Burnley this weekend.

Saints have three games, two in the Premier League and one in the Emirates FA Cup, before they head to Anfield for the decisive second leg on Wednesday 25th January.

“It was a great performance against Liverpool and it was very important for the team, because we were not in the best moment,” said Cédric.

“We needed a win, definitely, and it was a great job from everyone. This team deserved it, so I am happy that we had a great game.

“I think we are in the right way now. We just need to keep it going, keep working all together. It’s all about the mentality that we have for every game.

“If we think always like this, and have a very strong mind like before Liverpool, we can have some very good results before the next game.”

Having struggled since Christmas, the victory will have done wonders for confidence, says the Portuguese international.

“We needed a win. When you win against a strong team like Liverpool you get the confidence back,” added Cédric.

“Now it’s much easier to prepare for all of the games, because everyone is much more positive.”
