Claude Puel says a late assessment will be made on the fitness of Steven Davis ahead of the trip to Burnley in the Premier League.

Davis was replaced by James Ward-Prowse in the 82nd minute of the EFL Cup victory over Liverpool on Wednesday with a knock.

Dutch midfielder Jordy Clasie was also withdrawn but Puel has confirmed that he will be fit for the weekend.

Puel said: “There is no problem with Jordy. He was just a little tired because it was a strong game for him and for the team.

“But we have no injury, apart from Charlie Austin, Alex McCarthy, Jake Hesketh, Matt Targett and Sofiane Boufal.

“We will see tomorrow with Steven Davis but after that everyone is ok.”

Puel also confirmed that José Fonte will continue to sit out, while his future waits to be resolved.

We must be more clinical, says Puel
