Nathan Redmond believes Southampton’s win against Liverpool can be a big turning point in the season.

Redmond netted the only goal of the game as Saints gave themselves a slender advantage in the EFL Cup semi-finals ahead of a trip to Anfield in two weeks’ time.

After a difficult spell over the Christmas period, Redmond was delighted with Saints’ character and determination in the narrow victory.

“All the boys are delighted. We’re buzzing with the clean sheet. Every single player worked hard for it and to come away with the win is a massive step going forward,” Redmond said.

“We can’t deny it’s been a sticky period since Christmas, but we’ve stuck in there.

“Even today, people were smashing into challenges and everyone gave their all.

“It just shows that we’re sticking together and we’re fighting to get through it.

“It was good to hear the fans behind us again, as they have been every step of the way this season.”

And Redmond hopes the win can provide some all-important momentum for the remainder of a hectic January.

“We’ve got the bit between our teeth again because we know we’ve been through a rough patch,” he added.

“No-one has been working as hard as us to try and put that right.

“Hopefully this win can give us some momentum going forward.”
