Claude Puel said it was “difficult to accept” the late draw at Carrow Road where Southampton were pegged back in stoppage time to a 2-2 draw in the Emirates FA Cup.
Saints led twice in the match thanks to goals from defenders Virgil van Dijk and Maya Yoshida, only to see Steven Naismith’s 92nd minute header earn Norwich a replay at St Mary’s.
Puel was frustrated not only to see the hosts get back into the contest, but also the implication it has on his team’s schedule of matches which has increased by a further game in this month.
“It’s difficult to accept this because I think it’s always difficult to play away against a Championship team,” said Puel.
“I think we have had control of the game and have scored two fantastic goals through Virgil and Maya, which were the most difficult. It’s a pity and we find it difficult to take this goal in the last minute of the game. I think it’s our fault and that these possibilities happen.
“OK, it’s a second round now and we play at home, but it’s another game on January in the cup to go alongside the Premier League and the EFL Cup.
“It’s another important game without the possibility to recover also. It’s without a week of recovery and work, but it’s our fault and it’s important to have a good answer in the next game against Norwich.”
