Ollie Cook has set his sights on avenging the defeat to Reading, when they lock horns again in Premier League 2 on Friday at Hogwood Park.
Saints exited the Checkatrade Trophy on penalties at St Mary’s before the festive period, having beaten The Royals 3-1 earlier in the league campaign.
A brace from Josh Sims and a goal Alfie Jones proved the difference on that occasion, with Cook expecting another tough test.
“We’ve all had a good Christmas break. Obviously we had the loss to Reading in the Checkatrade Trophy just before so we’re all raring to go and looking to get one over them at their place,” said Cook.
“The focus is on it like we would be with any other game but it gives us a bit more motivation going into this one.
He added: “We know they’re going to be big and physical but that’s what you expect from a Reading side.
“I think we’ve got to match that first and foremost before we can start playing our football.
“They play as well and I think if we can firstly match them, we can try and get on top with our passing game and be clinical in both boxes.”
