Steven Davis insists victories in the games against West Bromwich Albion and Everton will make it a positive festive period for Southampton.

Saints lost 4-1 to Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday night, as they kicked off a run of three games in just six days over Christmas and New Year.

Claude Puel’s men now welcome West Brom to St Mary’s on Saturday, with Davis insisting positive results in the next two fixtures can go a long way.

“Even with this Christmas period, and so many games in such a short space of time, if you can pick up some good results it can take you a long way,” Davis said.

“We have huge frustration from Wednesday night, but we have to put that behind us, move on and go out and get the three points on Saturday.

“We’ve still got two massive games to play in this six-day period. There’s still a lot to play for.

“Hopefully we can show our qualities in the next two games and take the points.”

Saints were handed the toughest festive schedule in the Premier League this time around, and Davis admits it’s tough to prepare for every game in the same way as usual.

“It’s hard in terms of preparation. You don’t get to do a lot of work on the training ground in the lead up to each and every game,” Davis explained.

“Usually you work on how you’re going to play against the opposition. From that respect it’s hard, physically and mentally it’s hard too.

“But it’s something I’ve been used to in my career. I’ve always played at this time of year and it’s a period that I enjoy.”
