Radhi Jaïdi is hoping for a repeat performance when Southampton face Reading on Wednesday night.

Saints host the Royals in the Checkatrade Trophy at St Mary’s, having already defeated them 3-1 in the Premier League 2 this season.

“We played Reading a couple of weeks ago and had a very good performance, so we are expecting the same thing,” started Jaïdi.

“I think the only difference will be that we are playing in this competition, which is huge for both teams and both academies.

“The fact we are going to play at St Mary’s and there will hopefully be some supporters there will also make it slightly different to the league.

“They will definitely be looking to perform - this competition is a great motivation for both teams to want to go to the next round.”

Victory at St Mary’s would tee up an away visit to Yeovil Town in round three of the competition.

And Jaïdi is keen to see his side progress.

“The competition itself is new to us,” he continued.

“It would be great if we could be the last under-23s side left in it. That would be a very good sign of what we are doing.

“Hopefully that will be a good encouragement for us to keep going and keep producing the players and facing good teams in this competition.”
