Jay Rodriguez was delighted to net a brace in Southampton’s 3-1 victory over AFC Bournemouth.
The Saints striker tucked in from close range to take the lead at Vitality Stadium before confirming all three points with a stunning 85th minute strike.
“It’s a great start for me,” smiled Rodriguez.
“I don’t mind how they go in, as long as they go in for the team. The first one was great for me - it’s an amazing feeling putting the ball in the back of the net.
“Nathan is claiming the assist off his face for the second! It came off his face and I just turned, hit it and then saw it go in.
“If I feel it is right then I just hit it – that’s just a natural reaction. Sometimes it goes over but then sometimes, like today, it sits in the net.”
The victory over AFC Bournemouth completes a seven-point week for Saints, following a draw at Stoke City and 1-0 victory over Middlesbrough.
And Rodriguez was delighted to cap off the week with a positive result heading into Christmas.
“It’s a really positive week,” he continued.
“Stoke was a difficult one and we maybe should have done better, but this is football. As long as we keep working hard and striving for the same things then it is going to happen.
“We’ve had so many games. We have travelled a lot and it has been quite tough, especially as it is new for a lot of players, including myself.
“So it will be nice to have a small break from games, continue to work hard and get my head down and keep improving.”
