Jay Rodriguez praised the spirit of the Southampton camp, following their 3-1 victory over AFC Bournemouth.

Saints fought back from one down at Vitality Stadium to take all three points, thanks to a Ryan Bertrand strike and Rodriguez brace.

“It’s nice to score a couple of goals and get the win,” he started.

“Bournemouth were a great side and we knew it was going to be tough today. They play some good stuff but we were able to stop them at times.

“We stuck together and worked hard throughout the game. The first-half was difficult in patches, but Ryan’s great goal got us back in it.

"At the time we were 1-0 down which is very difficult, especially against Bournemouth with the way that they play. The timing was massive and it gave us a real kick.”

Bertrand’s goal ensured that Saints went in level at the break, before Rodriguez struck two after the interval to secure the win.

And the striker believes the second-half was a much better showing of what Saints are capable of.

“In the second-half we came back and showed what we could do,” he continued.

“We said at half time that it was there for us to win, and that we just needed to go out there and do it. We knew what we had to do and we put it away.

“It’s important for us to come here and pick up the three points today, especially now heading into the Christmas period.”
