James Ward-Prowse feels says Saints must play the game and not the occasion against AFC Bournemouth this weekend.
The local derby sees the two clubs lock horns in the Premier League for just the third time, with both level on 21 points.
Saints have lost just one of their last seven meetings with Bournemouth, which came in their last meeting - something Ward-Prowse hopes to avenge.
“As players, it’s in the back of your mind and it’s always a game you want to win even more.
“But we have to be disciplined and controlled in our minds and make sure we’re focused on the task.
“We have to put the South Coast to the side and make sure we focus on what’s going to be a tough game.”
One thing Claude Puel’s men will be looking to bridge is the gap because chances created and their current conversion rate.
And in the absence of top goalscorer Charlie Austin, Ward-Prowse is confident that the luck will turn.
“The strikers need to keep making the runs, we need to keep getting in the box and hopefully it will fall.
“We maybe need a little bit of luck in front of goal which hopefully we can get this weekend and the goalscoring form can turn around.”
