Claude Puel says Southampton will get the chance to recover from a hectic schedule after the Bournemouth game.
Saints have had a busy fixture schedule in recent weeks, competing in the Premier League, EFL Cup and Europa League.
Puel’s side has reached the semi-finals of the EFL Cup, but suffered disappointment in the Europa League, as they exited at the group stage.
Saints face Bournemouth in their final game before Christmas, with Puel saying his players will be given time to rest after the game, as they don’t face Tottenham Hotspur until 28th December.
“After this game there is three days off for the squad. This is the first time in a long time,” he said.
“I think we have played 25 official games and also more for the international players already this season.
“The statistic is that we are in the ten first teams with international players and the number of minutes played.
“This is very strong, and for a team like Southampton this is the first season for many of the players playing every three days.
“Of course we had a big disappointment in the Europa League, but it is important for the future.
“We develop many players to play for any position in any places and this is important for the team.
“Three days after this game will be important for the players, not just for the physical level, but all to stay with their families.”
