Match-winner Will Smallbone could do little to hide his excitement following Southampton's 2-1 FA Youth Cup victory over Manchester United.
The midfielder came off the bench to net an exquisite 85th minute winner at Old Trafford, after Thomas O’Connor levelled proceedings moments earlier.
“Everyone is buzzing,” explained Smallbone.
“We came here with a game plan and we executed it perfectly. It was so good to come here and beat them on their own turf.
“It was great to come to such a big and iconic stadium like Old Trafford and play, but to get the win just made it even better.”
Smallbone’s winning strike was his fourth of the season for Saints, though the midfielder admitted he was just pleased to play a part in the tie.
“I was just happy to get on,” he continued.
“I remember cutting inside and then I got a shout to shoot so I just banged it and luckily it went in.
“After that I just remember running off to celebrate and getting slapped by everyone – it was a great feeling!
“Obviously it was a great win for us, but we just want to take it one game at a time and focus on the next round now.”
