Craig Fleming is anticipating an exciting match when Southampton Under-18s take on Manchester United on Monday night.
Saints travel to Old Trafford in the third round of the FA Youth Cup, and the Under-18s manager is looking forward to seeing the two sides go head to head.
“It’s exciting – I think it’s a great tie,” explained Fleming.
“It’ll be good to play against them, they are one of the best teams at this level. So it will be good test for our lads to see where they are at.
“We have watched them quite a bit and they have some very good players, but so do we - it will be a very exciting tie.
“There is also the added bonus of playing at Old Trafford, which is obviously a great experience for the boys.”
Southampton suffered a 3-2 defeat to Birmingham City at this stage in the same competition last year.
Saints found themselves 3-0 down before half time at St Mary’s, and Fleming is keen for his side to learn from that experience this time around.
“I think the occasion got to a few of our boys last year,” he continued.
“So we’ve got to guard against that, but again, it’s all about developing them and playing in a game like that at such a young age is fantastic experience.
“Since I’ve been at the club I’ve tried to get into the players that every game is important - it’s not that you just pitch up for the big ones.
“Of course the lads look forward to this competition, but part of their learning is understanding that every single game and training session matter just as much as the next.”
