Virgil van Dijk expressed his gratitude to Southampton's supporters after they voted him as the Under Armour Player of the Month for November.
The Saints centre-half scooped the prize for the first time this season, following a series of impressive displays for the team, with 74.2 per cent of the votes being cast in his favour.
Speaking after receiving his award, van Dijk said: "It's very pleasing. I'm very happy and grateful for everything, obviously.
"It was a month of ups and downs – a couple of good games and a couple of not so good games. It's a difficult competition, the Premier League, but I'm very happy to get this award."
Reflecting on his season so far and the improvement he feels he has enjoyed at the club, van Dijk added: "I work hard on the pitch and I like to give all I've got every game, 100 per cent, and show my qualities as well, on the ball and off the ball, and be a leader for the team.
"I feel like I'm progressing, I feel like I have a lot more to offer and to come, so I just need to keep going with the help of the fans and my teammates and the staff."
