Claude Puel says Southampton must approach Sunday’s game against Middlesbrough with “determination and conviction”.
After a disappointing night at St Mary’s on Thursday, as Saints exited the UEFA Europa League following a 1-1 draw with Hapoel Be’er Sheva, they return to Premier League after this weekend.
And Puel says his players will be ready to bounce back from the frustration against Aitor Karanka’s side this weekend.
“Of course there is big disappointment at the moment, it’s normal because it was a strong investment for all of the club,” he said.
“But now with this disappointment it’s interesting to have a good reaction on Sunday and to come back in the Premier League with determination and conviction.
“I’m sure we will make a good game this weekend. I have a competitive group of players, and this is important for the future.
“Now we need to have good concentration about this game and Premier League games. We want to come back into the top of the table.”
The aim now is to ensure Saints return to the European stage next season, according to Puel.
“It’s very important for us to get back to the top of the table and participate in Europe for another season,” he added.
“We like it, for all of the people, the fans and the club. It will be important for us to qualify for another campaign.”
