Southampton Under-23s coach Radhi Jaïdi wants his players to learn from their 2-0 Premier League 2 defeat to Sunderland.
The Black Cats secured victory with two second-half goals at Staplewood in a game that Jaïdi felt his side could have given more in.
“I think it was all about us today,” he explained.
“We spoke about the performance before the game and I demanded an individual and collective performance, but some of the boys missed out on that.
“When we thought we could control the game we gave away the ball and we didn’t move it quick enough or switch the play and look to penetrate them.
“It’s something we need to learn from. We need to go away now, debrief it, bin it and then think about the next game.”
Saints were forced into an early reshuffle during the match, as Olufela Olomola suffered an injury after 24 minutes.
Will Smallbone replaced the Under-23s’ top goalscorer, and Jaïdi was optimistic Olomola’s injury was nothing too serious.
“It was bad news to lose Fela,” he continued.
“I spoke with the physios after and it is not something big, so hopefully he will recover quickly.
“We will fully assess him tomorrow and see what is going to happen, but hopefully it is not that bad.”
