Southampton Under-23s coach Radhi Jaïdi has urged his players to put on a good performance in their next Premier League 2 encounter against Sunderland.
The Black Cats visit Staplewood Campus on Friday afternoon, where Saints have recorded a win and a draw in their previous two matches.
But Jaïdi was keen to reiterate the importance of not getting too caught up in the previous results.
“Of course it’s confidence for the boys,” he explained.
“But now we need to continue to perform well and get the standard as high as possible. We always demand the performance before anything else from our players.
“The result then follows that and in the last couple of weeks it has all come together, so hopefully they can continue and keep performing well.
“But Sunderland have quality individuals and will make it difficult in the final third. They also play out and score goals, so there’s plenty to prepare for.”
Jaïdi will have a healthy squad of players to pick from on Friday, as Armani Little returned to the action against Newcastle after four months on the sidelines.
Marcus Barnes also enjoyed his first start since August in the previous encounter and netted twice in the 3-0 victory.
“It’s good news for everyone,” continued Jaïdi.
“We’ve had a lot of younger boys involved with the team recently and they’ve performed really well, but I am happy to see Armani and Barnsey come back.
“Especially for Barnsey coming back in and getting two goals. He’s a goalscorer and that’s good for his confidence and the team.
“It’s the same thing for Armani who had a really good first half – these are all older boys coming back in who can help the younger ones.
“I am looking forward to seeing them perform better and more confidently in the next game.”
