Sam McQueen is hoping for another special European night at St Mary’s on Thursday, as Southampton face Hapoel Be’er Sheva.
Fresh from signing a new four-and-a-half-year contract with the club, McQueen will now look to help Saints reach the knockout stages of the Europa League.
Claude Puel’s players know a win, or a 0-0 draw, will see them qualify, and having already experienced memorable nights against Sparta Praha and Internazionale, McQueen is confident Saints can make it a hat-trick of home successes.
“It’s a huge game on Thursday and that’s all anyone is worried about now,” McQueen told southamptonfc.com.
“It’s a huge competition. You’re playing against a lot of different styles, which is only going to help me grow personally, as well as the team against new challenges.
“I think we’ve done well so far, but we wouldn’t be doing ourselves justice if we don’t win and get through the group.
“The atmosphere that was created in the game against Internazionale, was really special.
“We hope for that again and hopefully we can repay the fans with another good performance and the all-important win.”
With wins against Sparta Praha and Inter under their belts already, McQueen feels the squad is full of belief heading into big games at St Mary’s.
“St Mary’s is an amazing ground on nights like these. As players, we always feel confident walking out at home,” he added.
“We also believe we’re going to get a result, whoever we’re playing against, and we’ve shown that with the results we’ve had at home recently.”
