Ryan Bertrand was delighted to open his goal account for the season, as he helped fire Southampton past Arsenal and into the semi-finals of the EFL Cup.
The left-back struck a precise low shot into the bottom corner from just inside the area in the first half at Emirates Stadium, adding to Jordy Clasie's early effort, as Saints prevailed 2-0.
"I was very pleased," he said. "I've been in that situation a few times in the past and I just made sure the first touch was correct and, as soon as that was hit, it was going to be a goal."
Smiling, Bertrand added: "I try and tell the rest of the lads I'm up there with the best of them [when it comes to finishing], so hopefully I showed that again."
Having been part of the squad during the past two seasons, when they fell at the quarter-finals of the League Cup, Bertrand was delighted to make it third time lucky.
"It's very nice," he said. "We were fully focused on getting the right result and making progress in this competition and we've managed to do that and we're going to fully focus on the league next and when this draw comes around we'll be ready."
