Pierre-Emile Højbjerg has backed young winger Josh Sims to continue on an upward trajectory after his man of the match-winning debut against Everton.
Sims kick-started his Southampton career in style when he assisted Charlie Austin for the only goal of the game with just seconds on the clock.
The young winger impressed Claude Puel enough in the Under-23s to be given an opportunity after five goals in nine PL2 games so far this season.
Højbjerg said: “We spoke with him a little bit before the game. Of course, you can’t tell a good footballer how to dribble or how to pass the ball but we told him and little bit how to stand and to tactically manage the game.
“He did that fantastically and after with his qualities and talent he showed what he could do. I’m pleased for him and his family, I’m sure they are all proud as we are.
“He needs to keep going. He can enjoy, but now people will look at him and ask for more.
“He doesn’t need to do more, he just needs to carry on what he is doing.”
