Sam Gallagher helped Blackburn Rovers end Championship leaders Newcastle United's nine-game winning run with a 1-0 victory at St James’ Park.

The 21-year-old, who was making his 17th league appearance of the season, played 62 minutes for Rovers before being replaced by former Swansea City striker Marvin Emnes.

Charlie Mulgrew then acrobatically finished moments later to claim all three points for the visitors and move them out of the relegation places.

Elsewhere, Dom Gape was also involved in a league victory over the weekend as Wycombe Wanderers defeated Hartlepool United 2-0.

The Saints loanee played 90 minutes as Scott Kashket struck twice to lift the Choirboys back into the League Two play-off places.

In League One, Jason McCarthy kept another clean sheet for Walsall, as the Saddlers held Southend United to a 0-0 draw at Bescot Stadium.
