Radhi Jaïdi hopes Southampton Under-23s will take plenty of confidence from the Checkatrade Trophy win over Crawley Town when they visit their Chelsea counterparts on Monday.
Saints are back in Premier League 2 action, as they make the trip to Cobham Training Centre for the 2.05pm GMT kick-off.
With the win over Crawley coming after a 1-0 victory away to Swansea in the Premier League Cup, Jaïdi says the players are in great spirits ahead of their latest fixture.
"Obviously, it was a great result against Crawley and that gives confidence to everyone," he said. "Not only the result, but the performance was really great. There was a lot of good stuff from our younger boys, so hopefully they will take that into the next game and the ones after.
"We are always asking the players to keep the consistency of what we do right, and hopefully the confidence is on a good level. We try to keep the same performance and send the right messages to everyone, and we'll see what's going to happen."
Chelsea head into the game ninth in the table, with Saints fourth, but Jaïdi is expecting the visitors to face a real challenge.
"It's always a challenging test, especially when you play against them away," he said. "We are expecting a quality team with quality individuals, and that's going to be a challenge for our younger boys and, as I'm aware, our boys always respond positively to what we say and who we're playing against, and hopefully the performance will be good and the boys will keep the consistency."
