Southampton defender Cédric reserved high praise for his teammates after the goalless draw with Liverpool at St Mary’s.
Claude Puel’s men defended superbly to deny a side who had scored 40 goals in their 14 competitive games so far prior to the clash.
And the returning defender was pleased with their nous in stifling the Premier League leaders.
Cédric said: “At home we always try to win of course but it was Liverpool who are first in the league at the moment and they have great players.
“I think our team were fantastic this afternoon and I need to congratulate all my colleagues this afternoon.
“We knew how Liverpool play after we studied them and they have good players who change position all the time. You need to be intelligent to defend this.
“We knew we couldn’t control all the moments of the game but we created a few chances and we had a good game.”
He added: “I felt great and it’s my first game back so I’m winning my confidence back and the rhythm of the game.
“My colleagues helped me a lot too so I’m very grateful to them.”
