Claude Puel says Southampton have the ability to match Liverpool and create chances, when the two sides meet on Saturday at St Mary’s.
This weekend’s visitors have netted 40 times already in their 14 competitive matches so far this season, with their goalscoring form helping them to top of the Premier League.
Puel is well aware of the threat Liverpool will pose this weekend, but believes his side have shown enough this season to match any opposition they face.
“Always after an international break the games are important, but of course against Liverpool it’s special because they sit first in the table,” Puel said.
“It will be interesting of course to make a good game and to try to win this game.
“It’s a very strong team, with great players and a good trainer. They are full of confidence because of the good results, but I think we can battle with them.
“As a collective, and with good spirit and quality on the pitch, we can do well.”
Liverpool have impressed going forward this season, but Puel is confident his side can also threaten in attack at St Mary’s on Saturday.
“They practice good football and have many chances, but for us it is the same also in other games,” he added.
“We can have many chances against any opponent, but we must be efficient. It’s important to continue working.”
