Saints stars to round off international action

Southampton’s players are set to conclude a busy week of international action today.

As many as five of the first-team squad could be in action, beginning with Maya Yoshida, who is with Japan for their World Cup qualifier at home to Saudi Arabia (10.35am GMT kick-off).

The match is a crucial one for the Samurai Blue, who are currently three points behind their opponents, who lead Group B of Asian qualifying, on the road to the 2018 finals in Russia.

The rest of Southampton’s players involved with their countries today have friendly matches to look forward to.

Dušan Tadić and Serbia head to Ukraine, following their 1-1 draw away to Wales in a World Cup qualifier on Saturday, with this evening’s game scheduled to kick-off at 7pm GMT.

Midfielder Steven Davis is set to captain Northern Ireland, as they welcome Croatia to Windsor Park (7.45pm GMT), just a few days after they thumped Azerbaijan 4-0 in World Cup qualifying action.

Left-back Ryan Bertrand will be hoping to see action with England, as they host Spain (8pm GMT), with the Three Lions hoping to maintain the momentum they built up with last week’s comfortable 3-0 qualifying win over Scotland, at Wembley.

Sofiane Boufal could also be in action at the same time, as Morocco host Togo in a friendly at 8pm GMT.
