Southampton captain José Fonte was involved as Portugal ran out 4-1 winners against Latvia at Estádio Algarve in FIFA World Cup qualifying.
Cristiano Ronaldo broke the deadlock from the penalty spot on 28 minutes after Nani was upended by full-back Gints Freimanis inside the area.
After the interval, Ronaldo had the chance to double the advantage with another penalty just shy of the hour mark when Glebs Kluskins brought André Gomes, but his effort crashed against the post.
Latvia then levelled through Arturs Zjuzins, but three minutes later the hosts were back ahead when William Carvalho converted from Ricardo Quaresma’s cross.
Quaresma was involved again for the third, when he teed up Ronaldo for his second of the night.
And in stoppage time, the result was sealed when Raphael Guerreiro’s cross was headed home by Bruno Alves.
Fonte completed the duration as Portugal moved up to second in Group B.
