Stephens: It was an honour

By SFC Media Fri 11 Nov International

It is hard to believe anyone could have been as delighted after England Under-21s’ victory over Italy as Jack Stephens – but the defender revealed that James Ward-Prowse might have been even more thrilled than he was.

Playing at his home ground of St Mary's, Stephens netted a last-gasp winner in the 3-2 victory over Italy’s youngsters, as he ended an already-special night in memorable fashion.

Yet the centre-back laughed afterwards that his Saints teammate and Young Lions captain Ward-Prowse might have been the most elated of all.

"I think he’s more buzzing than me, which you would think is hard to believe,” said Stephens.

"Everyone is just delighted and being the Saints lads as well it just makes it even more special.

"It was a great occasion and exciting for me, Prowsey and Redders and it was just an honour to walk out with an England shirt on in front of the home fans."
