James Ward-Prowse says it will be a great honour for him to lead out England Under-21s at his home stadium.
The Young Lions visit St Mary’s on Thursday night for a mouthwatering clash with Italy, as they build up towards next summer’s Euros.
Ward-Prowse is set to captain the side, meaning it will be a particularly special night for him.
"It's going to be a great occasion,” he said. “I think for us it's a big stepping stone towards our plans for the summer.
“It's going to be a tough summer ahead and it'll be a good test for us to make sure we're ready for the tough games coming.
“It's going to be a great occasion for us, especially the Southampton boys to get out there and hopefully show the Southampton fans what the England Under-21s can do.
"For family and friends to be there as well it will be nice. To captain your country at any level and in any game is great, but to do it at my home stadium will be great, and I think a big thing for us is showing everyone what we can do.
"To captain your country anywhere is great, but to do it in front of the Southampton fans and in a place that you know well and that I absolutely love it's going to be a great honour for me.”
