Claude Puel says Southampton's 2-1 win over Inter was a victory for the club's supporters.
The Saints boss praised the atmosphere created by the home fans at St Mary's, as they watched their side record a famous result against the Italian giants.
After not being able to give them a win in the San Siro two weeks previously, Puel was delighted that his team were able to reward the supporters in the latest game against Inter.
"It was important also that the fans were rewarded, because they came for the first one against Inter in their thousands and it was important to win this game for them," said Puel.
"It was a fantastic atmosphere, and it was important for my players to have this great support. It was a fantastic atmosphere and we will want to know this for the future."
While the win has edged Saints closer to qualifying for the knockout stages, Puel insisted there is still plenty of work to do.
"Now we know the way, because it's not finished – it's important to continue this work in this competition, and the next game, away against Sparta, will be very hard," he said.
