James Ward-Prowse feels the home fixture against FC Internazionale is testament to the growth of the club in recent years.
The two club's juxtaposition of fortunes since 2010, when Southampton won the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy and their Italian counterparts lifted the UEFA Champions League has been much talked about.
And Ward-Prowse, who is well-placed to chart the club’s rise having been at the club since the age of eight, is hoping the fans will savour the occasion and help the team towards qualification.
He said: “Having been at the club for a long time, I’ve seen the growth on and off the pitch.
“It’s great to see the rise of the club and it’s a great game against a European giant.
“The fans have stuck with the club through thick and thin and the bad times. These are the good times now.
“A few years ago a few of them would have been travelling to League One fixtures and now we’re hosting Inter in the Europa League.
“We have a chance of qualifying to the next stage and we have to make sure they behind us to give us that boost and get over the line.”
