Olomola: Debut a dream come true

By SFC Media Wed 26 Oct Saints vs Sunderland

Olufela Olomola reflected on a ‘dream come true’ after making his Southampton debut in the 1-0 EFL Cup win over Sunderland.

Olomola replaced Jay Rodriguez after a clash of heads forced him off after just 26 minutes.

Having impressed in the Under-23 side, the forward was one of six academy graduates on the field as Saints progressed to the Quarter Final for the third consecutive season.

“It was a dream come true to make my debut in front of all those fans and I’m grateful to the manager for the opportunity,” said Olomola.

“When you’re on the bench they tell you to be ready at any moment as anything can happen, so I was ready.

“I tried to show the manager what I can and I gave it my all. The manager told me to save my energy and not try to win every ball!

“I think there’s a lot more pressure and a lot more tempo to the game at this level so that’s something I need to get used to quickly.”
